Hypertension and Ways to prevent it





🌹WHAT IS HYPERTENSION

High Blood Pressure or Hypertension is affected many of people in the world. Defined as persistent elevation of systolic BP of 140 mmHg or greater and/or diastolic BP of 90 mmHg or greater. The one most dangerous of hypertension is that you may not know that you have it. The only way you can know is through the regular checkups. This is very important to monitor the reading of your blood pressure to ensure the health.


🌹CAUSES 

1. Smoking

2. Obesity

3. Too much sodium intake

4. Lack of physical activity

5. Genetic (family history)

6. Too much alcohol consumption

7. Older 





🌹THE SYMPTOMS 

1. Severe headache

2. Fatique

3. Irregular Heartbeat

4. Difficulty breathing 


🌹TYPES OF HYPERTENSION 

1. Primary Hypertension

This hypertension is diagnose after three or four visits if the readings are high. People that suffer from this hypertension shows no significant symptoms.

2. Secondary Hypertension 

Happen when there are abnomalities in the arteries that supply blood to the kidneys 

3. Malignant Hypertension 

The blood pressure rises very quickly and causes medical emergency that person needs to be rushed to the hospital.

4. Resistant Hypertension

Happen in people who are aged, obese, diabetes or kidney ailments.


🌹DIAGNOSIS 

The best way to diagnose hypertension is to have your blood pressure measured. blood pressure reading is taken with a pressure cuff (Sphygmomanometer).

🌹TREATMENT & CARE 

1) Weight Reduction 

For people with overweight and mild hypertension, they usually recommended to practice dietary intervention in lowering their body weight. This is shown can reduce their blood pressure.



2) Regular Physical Activity 

Always take your chance to be physically active. By doing the regular physical activities makes your heart grow stronger. This will decreases the force on your arteries, thus can lowering the blood pressure. Start your day with 10,000 steps per day.



3) Healthy Eating and reduce alcohol and sodium consumption

Limit the alcohol consumption to < two drinks per day because high intake of alcohol can elevate the blood pressure. Besides, increase the intake of fruits and vegetables in your diet. Reduce the intake of sodium in your foods. According to the WHO,  intake for sodium per day is < 5 g equivalent to 1 teaspoon (2000 mg) in adults. The higher intake of sodium can increase the risk of high blood pressure, stroke, stroke mortality, and coronary heart disease mortality.




4) Cessation of Smoking

Blood pressure can raise due to smoking.
